Koekela is an American-style pastry shop founded in 2003, with stores in Rotterdam and The Hague. They produce and sell homemade cakes & cookies using only real ingredients.

Koekela asked Marie Cecile Thijs to make a piece of art that reflects the company’s credo: Baked with Love. She decided to make a group portrait of five bakers, actually working in the bakery of Koekela, showing the proces of the making of their Lemon Meringue Pie. The artwork can be seen in large format on the walls of the Koekela shops and the bakery in Schiedam.
